The Forest Stewards Guild welcomes applications from students or recent graduates in forestry or natural resources for a paid internship. You will perform supervised forest and wildlife habitat management with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The 12-week position is a supervised work and learning experience based at the Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge, McBee, South Carolina. Additional work will occur at the Pee Dee NWR near Wadesboro, NC.

Anticipated  start date: May 15, 2023.

The Forest Stewards Guild is a professional organization of forest stewards and natural resource professionals. Guild interns perform forestry tasks alongside US Fish and Wildlife Service staff, based on the season:

  • Forest inventories, including GPS and GIS technology and the integrated application of forest management software.
  • Collecting ecological and timber-related forest metrics to develop timber-harvest prescriptions, including volumetric measures required for harvest accountability.
  • Timber marking, harvest planning, monitoring and evaluation, and other tasks as assigned.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn how forestry and wildlife management work together on our public lands is a great entry point into careers in forest management and species conservation.
