    Under the direction of the Canadian Wildlife Campaigns Director, this contract position develops and implements strategic initiatives and campaign projects for the institutionally prioritized North Atlantic Right Whale campaign in Canada, as well as global marine conservation initiatives as assigned. This is a one-year contract, preferably beginning in September 2026. 

     

    Role and Responsibilities Include:

    Collaborate with the Canadian Wildlife Campaigns Director and relevant IFAW staff to develop and implement strategies and activities that reduce threats to the North Atlantic right whale and other whale species at risk.

    Analyze conservation policies and mitigation measures and identify opportunities to strengthen IFAW's marine conservation efforts through policy development, partnerships, and public engagement.

    Develop and maintain relationships with harvesters, government officials, coalitions, Indigenous and community partners, and other stakeholders to advance campaign objectives.

    Lead specific project activities, deliverables, budgets, and timelines to ensure program objectives are met.

    Prepare funding proposals, donor and funder reports, briefing materials, consultation submissions, and other administrative or program-related documents.

    Represent IFAW at meetings, conferences, consultations, coalition activities, and public events, communicating campaign priorities and key messages to internal and external audiences.

    Contribute to political briefings, political outreach, and submissions to public consultations.

     

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    Three or more years’ experience in project management and/or campaign implementation desired. Additional relevant experience may be substituted.

    Working knowledge of relevant marine conservation issues, organizations and networks.

    Bilingual English / French strongly preferred. This position will involve verbal and written communication in French.

    Experience working with coastal communities and fishermen in Atlantic Canada is an asset.

    Highly effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and experience working on teams in a multi-task environment. Self-motivated and able to work independently.

    Ability to interact harmoniously, communicate effectively, and demonstrate diplomacy and sensitivity with people from varying educational, social and cultural backgrounds.

     

    This is a remote position. Successful candidates should be able to work independently with little direct supervision. Candidate will be required to provide their own computer, high-speed internet access (suitable for Teams Meetings), Microsoft Office and other tools required to complete responsibilities.
