School of Forest, Fisheries, & Geomatics Sciences

Justin Thomas

Lecturer, Geomatics

Justin Thomas joined the Geomatics Department in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences in order to bring his experience and expertise from time spent in industry, both private and public sectors.

As a 2012 graduate of UF’s Geomatics program, he began his career in Gainesville at a Civil Engineering Firm as a Surveyor in Training. Justin earned his Professional Surveyor and Mapper license in 2016. He spent five years working in the private sector before transitioning to his most recent role at the Florida Department of Transportation’s District 2 headquarters in Lake City. After time spent at The Department, Justin saw an opportunity to come back to where his journey began and join the University of Florida’s Geomatics program.

He is passionate about training and equipping Florida’s future surveyors, and being able to give back to a program that has given him so much is important to him. Justin is excited about being part of growing the Geomatics Department.

Justin is currently assisting in teaching Route Geometrics and Visualization of Spatial Information. He is a member of the Florida Surveyor and Mapper Society, the National Society of Professional Surveyors and the Young Surveyors Network.
