Tim White, Professor Emeritus and former FFGS Director, joined the School in 1985 in a research and instruction faculty position. He worked for International Paper Company in Oregon from 1979-85 as a forest geneticist, biometrician, and manager of technical services. From 1986-2003 he was Director of the Cooperative Forest Genetics Program, which consists of 13 private companies and state agencies. These organizations have been working cooperatively since 1950 to breed varieties of southern pines that grow faster and are more disease resistant. From 1995-2003 he was also Director of the Forest Biology Research Cooperative in which a team of scientists and members seek to understand the biological mechanisms controlling forest productivity. From 2003-2016 he was director of FFGS.
