Professor Emeritus, Forest Genetics
Donald Rockwood was a Professor in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (formerly the School of Forest Resources and Conservation) from 1972 until he retired at the end of February 2009. During these 37 years, Dr. Rockwood taught Forest Mensuration and related subjects to two generations of Forestry majors; advised undergraduates in forestry and natural resources in SFRC and Florida A&M University; mentored over 50 graduate students and post-doctorates in forest tree improvement, short rotation woody crops (SRWC), and dendroremediation; and conducted research in the same fields.
As Professor Emeritus in FFGS and President of Florida FGT, he is active in the genetic improvement of Eucalyptus amplifolia, E. grandis, Corymbia torelliana, cottonwood, cypress, and slash pine hybrids for Florida and similar areas and their utilization as SRWCs for producing biochar and sequestering carbon, etc.
