I am a distance student pursing a thesis-based master’s degree. My research focuses on examining habitat utilization and population demographics of queen snapper (Etelis oculatus) in the US Caribbean. I utilize a variety of methods in my research to: 1) quantify and characterize benthic habitat and species associations, and 2) estimate growth, longevity, and natural mortality using archived and contemporary otoliths. Additionally, I am investigating the use of multiple structures to validate age estimates for this deepwater species. The results of this study will provide critical information on queen snapper life history and habitat associations to improve management and conservation of this fisheries resource.
