Assistant Professor, Geomatics/Geodesy

Dr. Chunli Dai is an Assistant Professor of Geomatics, with a specialization in geodesy, geophysics, and remote sensing. Dai received her Ph.D. degree in Geodesy at the Ohio State University in 2015 and joined the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences in 2022. Dai’s research interests include the use of various satellite remote sensing techniques to understand Earth’s dynamics and its processes under climate change, and to address interdisciplinary engineering and scientific problems. She is particularly interested in developing novel computational algorithms using big data sets from contemporary geo-sensing systems to study natural hazards such as landslides, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and coastal vulnerability to sea-level rises.

Dai’s work has been published in various journal articles, including lead-author papers in high-impact journals such as Remote Sensing of Environment, Geophysical Research Letters, and Earth and Planetary Science Letters, covering a wide range of topics such as the detection of tsunamigenic landslides, quantification of volcanic eruptions, coastline mapping, as well as earthquake focal mechanism characterization using satellite gravimetry.
